Armie Hammer shrugs off ‘cannibal’ label and laughs at past scandal in new podcast

Armie Hammer is raising eyebrows after launching a new podcast in which he is now laughing off previous allegations

The actor is seemingly unbothered by the ‘cannibal’ label that’s haunted him since his high-profile social media scandal in 2021.

Despite prosecutors confirming back in 2023 that he would not be charged over allegations of sexual assault, doubt still lingers for some following a damning documentary on the case.

Now, Hammer is claiming to embrace the nickname that once threatened to overshadow his career.

Launching his podcast Armie HammerTime on October 28th, with guest Tom Arnold, the 38-year-old actor spoke about being called a cannibal.

He openly mocked it and said: “I’m not gonna lie, I’m just like, ‘Hey, I’m a cannibal.’

“What makes more noise? ‘Armie Hammer is a cannibal’ or ‘Armie Hammer might not be a cannibal?’”

Hammer openly laughed about how he’s resigned himself to the label, making light of how he’s become the internet’s poster child for bizarre rumours.

His self-deprecating humour shows a stark change from his initial reaction to the accusations, which began with leaked messages allegedly showing his interest in extreme fetishes and cannibalistic fantasies.

Following the messages, multiple women came forward with allegations of abuse, and one accused him of rape.

While he has consistently denied all allegations, claiming his relationships were consensual, the scandal brought his career to a standstill and ultimately led to his exit from high-profile projects.

During the first episode, he looked back in disbelief at the rumors.

“People were saying I was a cannibal, and everyone just believed it,” he said, laughing.

“Like, how could anyone even think that? You’d have to actually eat people to be a cannibal, and that’s so out there.”

Hammer admitted that it took him some time to arrive at this perspective. He spoke of his 2021 interview on the Painful Lessons podcast, where he called the rumours “outlandish.”

Now, with a bit of distance from the scandal, Hammer says he’s learned to see the absurdity in the situation.

“Looking back, it’s kind of hilarious. People called me a cannibal, and it just stuck.”

Hammer’s podcast, his first project since his 2022 film Death on the Nile, marks an attempt at re-entry into the public eye after a long period of silence.
