Operation Transformation was axed this summer

Presenter Kathryn Thomas has opened up about the Operation Transformation cancellation, admitting she wasn’t hugely surprised to see the show axed.

Fans of the show were pretty gutted to see the end of the RTÉ hit, but many are relieved it will no longer be on air.

The show was met with major backlash over the years but remained on air from 2008 to 2024.

Host Kathryn Thomas recently admitted she was not surprised to hear the show was cancelled.

She explained that the crew was informed weeks before the news was made public.

The presenter said she’s incredibly proud of the work they did on Operation Transformation.

She told RSVP: “We had talked about it with production and we talked about it with RTÉ. None of us were hugely surprised, to be honest.

“Where we brought the show was really brilliant, it has an incredible legacy with all the education and understanding about the nation’s health.”

The presenter said it’s exciting to be working on new projects following the cancellation of Operation Transformation.

The mum-of-two added: “There comes a time where things need to change. It’s exciting to be working on new opportunities.”

She also believes the work they did on the show was something special.

Thomas said she loved everyone she worked with during her time on the show.

It may have been a positive experience for many, but the show was often called out for being toxic.

Many also felt it spread a negative message when it came to body image.

Many charities were relieved to see the show axed including the End Diet Culture movement.

They said, “We believe that Operation Transformation has contributed to weight stigma in Ireland by promoting negative attitudes towards people living with overweight and obesity.”
