As the marriage referendum debate rages on, Irish TV presenter and chef Donal Skehan has called on his Instagram followers to vote Yes on May 22nd.
The popular Kitchen Hero TV chef revealed that he plans to vote yes ahead of his wedding to girlfriend of nine years, Sofie.
In a moving post acknowledging LGBT rights, Donal paid tribute to his best friend and best man Jonathan, who he says he hopes to stand beside as his best man when he chooses to get married.
In a snap uploaded to the social networking site yesterday evening, Donal wrote:
‘In less than 10 weeks myself and Sofie are getting married. Today my best man, Jonathan and I picked up our suits for the wedding. We’ve been best friends since we were four years old, but since he came out 5 years ago he hasn’t had the same rights as me. On May 22nd Ireland has the opportunity to vote for marriage equality. I will be voting YES for an equal society, YES for the next generation and YES for my best friend, who I look forward to standing beside as his best man when he chooses to get married! I hope you will too… #VoteYes’
Closing date for ensuring you are listed on the voter’s register is Tuesday, May 5th.
