During the interview, the mother of two said how she was filming season three of How I Met Your Mother when she got the news:
"I had tumors on both ovaries and the cancer had spread into my lymph nodes and surrounding tissues."
It took multiple surgeries over the course of two years to remove the actress’ cancerous tissue.
Despite getting the all-clear, Smulders admits she still feels nervous that her cancer can return.
The 33-year old decided to speak openly about her battle, hoping it will help create more awareness amongst young women to get checked:
"I don't think I'll ever feel like I'm cancer-free.
"Now that I'm five years out, I'm trying to think of it as a positive thing and what can I learn from it. And if I can create more awareness, I'll do it."
