‘I’m just so over Instagram insincerity’ – Lucy Kennedy on the importance of being real in 2024

Kat O'Connor

Lucy Kennedy chats to Her.ie about her new cooking skills, her hopes for 2024, and her dream dinner party guests

Talking to Lucy Kennedy is the ultimate tonic. The presenter’s refreshing attitude and ethos to always be real is exactly what everyone needs as we enter another new year. I recently caught up with Lucy to talk about the year ahead, her dream dinner guests, and the joy of cooking for her loved ones.

Kennedy has lived with some of the biggest celebrities in the business from the late Christy Dignam to the iconic Gemma Collins, but being home and spending time with her family is what the presenter is all about.

Kennedy recently teamed up with HelloFresh and has found a new love for not just cooking, but meal times with her family. The mum said being able to come home and sit around the table together is like taking time out from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

She shared: “I can’t relate to the filter life. I don’t live that life. I’m not cooking to post an Instagram-worthy photo. It’s about sitting down and having the chats. I always say let’s just sit down even if it’s for 20 minutes. I think that’s when you get the news as well from your kids. If there’s anything that they’re worried about in school, they tend to kind of share it randomly at the table.”

How does Lucy Kennedy remain so calm in an ever-busy world?

Both her career and personal life are as busy as ever, but Lucy remains as cool as a cucumber despite her bustling schedule. How does she remain so positive when life is pulling her in ten different directions?

Kennedy says she’s always had a positive attitude, but one thing that helps is a weekly yoga class. “Yoga on a Tuesday night is the only time that I don’t talk because I’m not allowed to. Yoga is my thing, I’m a big yoga fan. I’m certainly not in any way a yoga bunny, but it realigns my mind.”

Kennedy turns to yoga and walking to keep her mind at ease, but another thing she has unsubscribed from is the Instagram way of living.

“Most of my days are stressful. I know I kind of laugh it off sometimes the fact that I have 86 jobs, but there are days when I feel overwhelmed. But I certainly don’t live the Instagram life where everything is perfect. There are days when I do get very run down or overwhelmed.

“I have three children. I’ve got a dog. I  have a mortgage. I’m like everybody else but I’m just so over the Instagram insincerity. I’ve spent the last 10 years living with celebrities so I know what they’re actually like. They’re like you and me with money. They don’t live the life that’s portrayed and it’s just so dangerous.

“I’m just never going to be into the Instagram life, but I am now more than ever done with it”

‘Living with Lucy’ viewers know Kennedy is the real deal because she just acts like her true self on the show. “I don’t put on full face at night time. I take it off and I take off my bra and I think viewers love that because that is what we’d be like if the cameras weren’t there.”

The influencer and celebrity world may not be Lucy’s cup of tea, but now that she’s sharpening her cooking skills there’s a group of celebrities that she’s eager to cook for. The radio host said hosting a dinner party for Vince Vaughan, Graham Norton, Michelle Obama, Anne Doyle, Sharon Osbourne, and Davina McCall is her dream.

If ‘Dining with Lucy’ hits our screens at some stage in the future then I’m hoping there’s room at the table for one more.

HelloFresh has partnered with Lucy Kennedy for the HelloFresh Home Cooking Challenge, which encourages people across the country to commit to cooking three meals at home per week.

Speaking about the partnership, Lucy said: “With a busy schedule and three kids who know what they like (and don’t!), it’s not always easy to find the time or motivation to cook at home. HelloFresh is a lifesaver for me. It transforms what can sometimes feel stressful into something enjoyable and rewarding. It removes the roadblocks, helping  me get a tasty and nutritious dinner on the table in record time.”
