Rik Mayall’s wife Barbara has confirmed that her husband died after suffering an “acute cardiac event”.
Apparently the comedian became seriously ill at their family home after returning from his regular run that morning.
“We now know that our darling Rik suffered an ‘acute cardiac event’ at our home around midday on June 9th,” she explained. “He had just returned from his usual run and many people had seen him that morning”.
According to BBC News, she made the comment after the post-mortem examination on the 56-year-old proved inconclusive.
Barbara also thanked both the media and the public for their support during this time: “We always knew that Rik was well loved but we are all overwhelmed by so many joining us in our grief”.
As well as his wife, The Young Ones star is survived by his three children; Rosie (28), Sidney (26) and Bonnie (19).
