“I made promises in that moment about what kind of dad I wanted to be”

Chris Pratt has spoken out about his son’s premature birth at an event for March of Dimes, a non-profit organisation that works to improve the health of mothers and babies in the US.

The actor, who has starred in films including Guardians of the Galaxy and The Five-Year Engagement, told the audience about fatherhood and what it was like holding his son Jack in the NICU. He was born nine weeks early and weighed just 3lbs 12oz.

“I’ve done all kinds of cool things as an actor. I’ve jumped out of helicopters and done some daring stunts and played baseball in a professional stadium, but none of it means anything compared to being somebody’s daddy,” the 35-year-old explained.

“I made promises in that moment about what kind of dad I wanted to be and I just prayed that he’d live long enough that I could keep them.”

Chris, who is married to actress Anna Faris, went on to thank the charity before adding: “Our Jack went from a small, helpless little squirt to a strong, smart, happy, funny, beautiful boy who loves monster trucks and Daniel Tiger, and, believe it or not, loves vegetables.”
