The show is due to return for its seventh season in 2025
Chris O’Dowd, known for roles across film and TV, is set to star in Netflix’s dystopian anthology Black Mirror.
O’Dowd, famous for his work in The I.T. Crowd, Bridesmaids, and Moone Boy, will join a star-studded cast that includes Awkwafina, Peter Capaldi, Rashida Jones, Issa Rae, and Paul Giamatti, among others.
While Netflix is keeping details of the new season under wraps, it has been confirmed that one episode will be a sequel to the fan-favourite “USS Callister” from Season 4.
The series, created by Charlie Brooker, has been praised for its sharp critique of modern society and its eerie, speculative storytelling, drawing comparisons to The Twilight Zone.
O’Dowd’s past sci-fi roles include appearances in The Twilight Zone reboot and The Cloverfield Paradox.
He recently worked on Small Town, Big Story, a series he wrote and directed in Ireland.
However, he has not yet commented on his role in the upcoming Black Mirror season.
This marks another milestone for the actor, following in the footsteps of fellow Irishmen Domhnall Gleeson and Andrew Scott, who have also starred in previous seasons of the acclaimed series.
Black Mirror is expected to debut on Netflix in 2025.
