‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star, Amy Dowden has opened up about the heartbreaking cancer diagnosis that robbed her of the last year.

In the run-up to 2024, people took the time to reflect on the last 365 days with many sharing incredible milestones and memories they made.

Our Instagram feeds were full of proposals, pregnancy announcements, dream holidays, and career achievements, but the milestones aren’t always a true reflection of life.

Strictly’s Amy Dowden said she found it hard and even felt “bitter” when she scrolled through social media.

Amy explained to ITV’s Lorraine that she had so many plans for 2023 and they were all wiped away.

Amy explained that having cancer doesn’t just change you physically, but it also changes you as a person.

“It has changed me as a person. Looked back and I did find some amazing opportunities that I had but also, when I looked back, I thought, I’ve had cancer.

Amy continued: “I’ve lost my hair, I’ve lost my boob, I’ve had sepsis.

“I went into septic shock and I’ve had blood clots, I broke my foot. Then you’re watching everybody else share these lovely photos and reels and I was a bit jealous,” Amy said.

“I feel I was robbed of the year I had planned,” the dancer added.

She said she felt a little bitter seeing the incredible year so many people experienced, but she is going to make sure 2024 is an even better year.

Amy completed her chemotherapy treatment just before Christmas.

In November, she confirmed that she was finished with her chemotherapy treatment.

“It’s been tough. But hopefully it has now given me chance of more life which I’m eternally grateful for and I will never take for granted again,” she wrote after she left hospital.
