Actress and writer Caroline Aherne has revealed that she has been undergoing treatment for lung cancer.
The 50-year-old, who is best known for The Royle Family, has previously been treated for both bladder and eye cancer (the latter of which she was born with).
She told the Manchester Evening News: “I’ve had cancer and my brother’s had cancer and we know how it affects people”.
Aherne, who did not say anything else about her own experience, is currently working with MACmillan Cancer Support in the UK in the hope of improving care for patients in the city.
She explained: “They’ve asked me to get involved and I’m really glad that I can do my bit to encourage Manchester people to speak up about where things do go wrong with cancer care”.
