Actress, writer and civil rights activist Ruby Dee has died at the age of 91.
She reportedly passed away on Wednesday (June 11th) at her home in New York, surrounded by family members.
During her career Dee starred in Do the Right Thing and American Gangster, for which she was nominated for an Oscar.
She received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Screen Actors Guild in 2000 along with her husband Ossie Davis, who passed away five years later.
Together the couple were also instrumental in the civil rights movement. They served as master and mistress of ceremonies at the 1963 March on Washington.
