Actor Richard Johnson Has Died Aged 87

The actor died at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea.


Actor Richard Johnson has died aged 87, after a short illness.

The TV and film actor was known for his roles in The Boy With The Striped Pyjamas and TV credits including Doc Martin, Silent Witness and Midsomer Murders.

Johnson was also rumoured to have been offered the first ever role of James Bond, but turned down producers.

As a founding member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Johnson also played several lead roles including Romeo and Mark Anthony in Julius Caesar.

Survived by his wife Lynne and four children, the British actor died at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea, west London earlier today.
