Twitter was planning on unleashing a whole new world of possibilities with a gif button, but it appears their trial didn’t go to plan.
According to TNW News, the social media tool were planning to let us roam the Twittersphere with some moving animation – thanks to a handy extra button on your tweet panel.
Pictured by one user, Phil Pearlman, the ‘gif’ button appeared between the camera roll and the polling option – which planned to direct users to browse through trending GIFs and a selection of other images sorted into mood categories.

Just before you start getting excited, it’s probably worth noting that the feature was quickly snapped back again by the company, who must’ve felt the trial run didn’t go exactly to plan.
So for now, it seems there won’t be a dedicated gif button… we’ll just have to get more creative with our remaining characters.
