Everyone's exhausted after Christmas and all you want to do is curl up in a ball and binge-watch series on Netflix.
Spring is on its way and the evenings are getting brighter, which means we've finally been blessed with a little bit of motivation.
I'm aiming to read more this year, but instead of challenging myself on Goodreads or setting an unrealistic Booktok goal, I'm simply going to read whatever appeals to me. 2024 is the year I'm giving up on reading books for the sake of numbers. It's time to focus on books that you enjoy instead of ones you feel you should read.
One book that has been on my radar since Christmas is 'What Happened to Birdy Troy?' by Rachael English.
The broadcaster and Irish author never fails to pen a compelling story and her latest novel is no different.
English always takes us on a trip back in time with her novels and in 'What Happened to Birdy Troy?' the author whisks us back to the 1980s.
The gripping read follows the fictional band 'The Diamonds' as they rise to fame, but disappear just as quickly.
40 years may have passed since the band vanished, but podcast host Stacey Nash wants to know more about their unusual history.
The synopsis reads: "In the early 1980s, The Diamonds – Ireland’s trailblazing all-woman rock band – were on the brink of international success. Their debut single ‘Too Much Not Enough’ was soaring the British charts. Then, as suddenly as they’d arrived, they vanished. It was the last anyone would hear of songwriter, guitarist, and legend-in-the-making Birdy Troy.
"Stacey Nash becomes fascinated with the band that broke up before she was born. How could four young women with so much promise just disappear? As problems mount in her own life, Stacey is drawn deeper into unraveling the mystery. After 40 years, and with the band’s members reluctant to cooperate, is it too late for the truth to emerge?"
You can pick up a copy of 'Whatever Happened To Birdy Troy?' in your local book shop. This is one book you need to get your hands on in February.
