Bad news if you’re always using tote bags
If like me, your entire life is carried around in your tote bag then I’ve got some pretty disappointing news.
I have everything and anything in my tote bags whether it’s useful belongings like the keys to my house or not-so-useful stuff like 5 lip balms, an unread copy of British Vogue, and two different berets.
There’s so much useless stuff gathering in my tote bag, but they’re so handy to have. You can fit so much in them, they always look cute, and they’re far more affordable than any designer option.
As great as they are, tote bags may be causing more harm than good, according to Orthopedic expert Bethany Lawrence.
She told Tyla that using tote bags regularly can strain your shoulder muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
It can also cause damage to your neck, as well as your upper back.
“This imbalance can cause misalignment in the spine, particularly if the bag is consistently carried on the same side,” she added.
The reoccurring strain may lead to issues with your posture, nerve compression, and even pain in your neck and back.
She added: “If left unaddressed, the issues caused by heavy or repetitive bag carrying can indeed become long-lasting.”
I guess it’s time to abandon my leopard print tote bag and start using a backpack for work.
