Looking for things to see and do out west? We’ve got you covered. As the sun makes a welcome return we thought, what better time to head to Galway and explore all it has to offer? Check out our top recommendations for things to see and do this weekend:

Visit Eyre Square

Always one of our first stops when heading west is travelling to the heart of Galway city to visit Eyre Square. Journey through the grassy area, which was officially renamed John F. Kennedy Memorial Park following the former president’s visit in 1963, and soak up the irresistible atmosphere on offer.

If you’re feeling peckish while there, take a trip to An Púcán, a bar just off Eyre Square that has a hefty menu and prides itself on being a genuine, great craic, proud to be Irish bar. The perfect place to drink in the last of the summer sunshine.

Visit Salthill

With the weather set to be pretty decent this weekend, an afternoon in Salthill is the perfect spot to make the most of the sunshine. You can take a seaside stroll along the promenade, take in some amazing views of Galway Bay and relax on one of many sandy beaches along the Galway coastline.

PLUS! If you visit Salthill this Sunday, you could be in with a chance of winning some amazing prizes! Virgin Mobile have launched their Freedom Mobile Booth which will be popping up in Salthill this Sunday 29 August, and if you track it down you could WIN!

All you have to do is answer the phone when it rings and you could win anything from dry robes, bodyboards and tents to a brand new mobile phone!

Sounds pretty simple, right? So, keep an eye out for the Freedom Mobile Booth in Salthill this Sunday and be sure to answer it if it rings – Freedom is Calling!

Take a trip to Galway Cathedral

The Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed Into Heaven and St Nicholas (yes, we know it’s a mouthful) is one of Galway’s most iconic buildings. Built with local limestone and Connemara marble, it’s not the oldest cathedral knocking about as it was completed in 1965, but the stunning scenes inside and out, make it well worth a visit.
