So THIS is why Converse shoes have extra holes on the side

Just in case you've ever wondered...

Cathy Donohue

Random fact of the day.

Converse trainers are the best: they’re ridiculously comfortable, timeless and go with everything from jeans to a maxi dress.

At the side of each Converse trainer, there are random holes that appear to be a standard design feature of every shoe.

The first reason for these “holes”  is pretty obvious, to allow air in and thus avoid smelly feet but the second purpose isn’t quite as clear.

Spotted on Cosmopolitan , those side holes can be used to go a little mad with your laces.

The below video explains how to use the side holes to change up your lacing style although to be fair, I can’t see anyone having the time or inclination to try this on a daily basis.

Still, at least we now know that those strange side-holes serve an actual purpose.
