When you fall pregnant a lot of things are bound to run through your mind: what will I eat, when do I start buying nappies, how will I cope… what will I wear?

While we can’t give you the answer to all of these questions, we can help you with that last one. Here are our five maternity must-have pieces and believe it or not but dungarees are not on the list.

1. The Maxi Dress

So it came into fashion for all women a couple of summers back but the maxi dress will never go out of fashion in the maternity section. It is the perfect piece for your pregnancy wardrobe. You get the style with the comfort, the coverage with the looseness, the flattering shape with the effortless approach. What more could you want?

2. The White Linen Trousers

At least once during your pregnancy, regardless of the time of year, you should whip out the classic white linen trousers. Again comfort is a huge thing when you are pregnant and these are perfect for that very reason. Better still linen trousers can be dressed up with a blouse or dressed down with a t-shirt.

3. The Maternity Skirt

If a dress doesn’t tickle your fancy, you could always opt for a maternity skirt. Most maternity skirts have an elastic section that will grow with your bump which means this is one piece of clothing that will actually last you the full nine months. After you give birth take a leaf out of Joey out of Friends book and wear it for Christmas dinner!

4. The Stretch Jeans

Jeans suit any and every occasion. This doesn’t change just because you’re pregnant. While normal jeans are probably best suited to the early stages of your pregnancy, you can get maternity jeans which work the same way as a maternity skirt. Team them with a t-shirt and a cardigan for ultimate casual chic.

5. The Boyfriend Cardigan

Speaking of cardigans, a nice addition to your maternity wardrobe is a boyfriend cardigan. It will keep you nice and snug without being too tight. Boyfriend cardigans will also do you for after your pregnancy and are one of those trends that comes back pretty much every year. You could always nab your partner’s actual cardigan if you don’t fancy spending the money!

With these essential items you and your style won’t go wrong during your pregnancy. Just think of it this way: if you become pregnant again you won’t have to spend as much.
