In the wise words of Calvin Harris ”It was acceptable in the ’80s”.

The ’80s was a great time for music, film and let’s not forget the crazy fashion.

While many of your ’80s wardrobe choices might make us cringe now it’s always fun to take a little trip down memory lane and revisit the trends that time forgot.

Here are some of the celebs that defined ’80s fashion and made us want to put scrunchies in our hair and Doc Martins on our feet.

Prince

He might have been called Prince but he was definitely the king of ’80s fashion. The jet black curls, the ruffled shirts, the embellished shoulders and the pink feather boas, we loved it all.

Grace Jones

Who could forget Grace Jones? The singer/actress/model was one of the biggest celebs of the decade. However, she was often best-known for her style which is still as iconic today as it was 30 years ago. Her angular hair, unusual make-up, striking hats and theatrical cloaks all added up to create the icon that we know and love.

Boy George

If anyone defined British pop music in the 1980s it was Boy George. But it wasn’t just his music that was unforgettable because his style was pretty spectacular too. His famous dreadlocks, massive coats and clunky boots all became synonymous with the era.

Bananarama

In the words of Chandler Bing ”Could they be any more ’80s?”. Bananarama epitomised the decade’s style with their pedal pushers, wild hair and selection of quirky hats. They were the girls we wanted to be and their songs still remind us of teenage discos.

Debbie Harry AKA Blondie

No one did cool like Debbie Harry. The Blondie frontwoman was known for her peroxide blonde hair, jazzy leggings and amazing graphic tees. She was the perfect laid back dresser and we loved her for it.

Michael Jackson

Known for his flashy footwork (and style) Michael Jackson started lots of fashion trends in the ’80s. The power jacket was one of his signature looks and it seems like the more embellishment the better. One thing is for sure, you could never say that his look was boring.

Princess Diana

Where do we even start with Princess Diana’s contribution to fashion? The woman was a total fashion icon to all of us and one of the most sophisticated dressers of the 1980s. Diana will always be remembered for her signature elegant style,  her power shoulders and of course her show-stopping wedding dress from 1981.

Madonna

There is no denying that Madge was the queen of ’80s cool. From over-sized leather jackets to tutus and from scrunchies to that iconic bushy hair she ticked every single box and we loved her for it. Let’s not forget her famous conical bra either.
