Young girl severely injured in Parnell stabbing set to return to school

The Parnell Square victim is reportedly thriving

The schoolgirl was left in a critical condition following the attack on November 23rd, 2023 but her family confirmed in a new update that she is thriving.

Writing on their GoFundMe page, the girl's parents confirmed that she is set to start school soon.

Her mum wrote, "Life has a funny way of showing us we need to slow down. I was always running, and impatient, and it rubbed off on my mothering.

"I will say that I did take for granted my little girl's abilities, thinking that there would be plenty of time to appreciate the small things. But you never realise that you have to be the one to make time. Time will not magically appear. The day only has 24 hours."

Her mum explained that she is trying to make the most of every moment following the attack.

"I have memorised all the stories my little girl likes to listen to, I sit with her without constantly checking my phone, I do the laundry after hours so the noise doesn't disturb her, I play and craft with her, all of which I would not have taken part in much because of different priorities."

She encouraged others to "stop and smell the roses" and to invest more time with their loved ones.

"Our little angel is thriving. Her neck has become stronger, and she is working on purposeful movements of arms and legs, swallowing more, and answering questions more clearly with her eyes and mouth movements.

Her mum confirmed her plans to return to education this year.

"She will start school soon, and will be surrounded by peers with similar challenges. She has always loved school, a social if you will.

"We cannot deprive her of that, shield her from the world. It wouldn't be fair. More successes to come, we are sure of it!" she added.

Her daughter spent 281 days in hospital following the Parnell Square stabbing.
