Women have been warned to be vigilant following the release of John English from prison. The 38-year-old has a total of 27 convictions, four of which are assault against women.
English was jailed for the rape of an Australian woman he met in a bar in Cork in 2002. In 2004 he was convicted of 18 years imprisonment for the offence, with 5 years suspended.
After English was released in September 2012, he was spotted drinking and the case was re-entered in the Central Criminal Court where his the five-year suspended period of imprisonment was reactivated.
Garda stations in Cork have been issued with warnings as it is expected that English will return to the city.
Jusice Barry White described him as “a danger and a menace to society” and said “he’s a serious threat to the women of Cork”.
