A young woman is in serious condition this morning after a gunman took fire on her yesterday in her Cork home.
Ciara Sheehan from Ardcullen was rushed to hospital after the incident took place at 12am yesterday.
According to
The Herald, 21-year-old Ciara received a threatening message on Facebook by a man who was subsequently arrested in connection with the crime.
A 29-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were arrested and were being questioned at Gurranabraher and Bridewell Garda Stations last night.
Reports claim that the man, who was known to the Gardaí had posted on Facebook that he was looking for members of the victim’s family. The post made claims that it was time for a “war”. The shooting occurred mere hours after the status was posted.
Witnesses were reluctant to come forward, possibly out of fear for retaliation.
One witness stated:
"I was listening to the radio with headphones on, but my daughter came in and told me she had heard a gunshot.
"I thought it was a car backfiring, but then I saw all the blue lights outside and knew something had happened.
"This dispute has been going on a while between two different families."
Another neighbor spoke to
The Herald.
"I heard the shot between 12am and 12.30am. I got out of bed, but only heard one gunshot at the front of the house” she said.
"All the windows were smashed in that house last year.
"The victims are a lovely family, so it is terrible to see this go on. We have been dealing with this for 15 or 16 years, but it has been getting worse and worse for a long time.”
