A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the deaths of two children in England.

A 7-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy were found dead in Stoke-On-Trent on Sunday, June 11th.

Local police have launched an investigation into the murders.

They confirmed they were originally called to a car wash on Campbell Road after a man was stabbed. Officers then went to a property on Flax Street and arrested a woman aged 49.

The suspect is from Stoke-On-Trent. She was originally arrested in connection with the stabbing, but officers then discovered two unresponsive children.

They had significant injuries when they were found and it is understood that the woman is known to both children.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of paramedics, both of them died at the scene. Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers at this tragic time.”

The woman remains in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Cheryl Hannan said: “Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the children. I cannot image the pain and shock they are feeling.”

“We also understand the concern felt locally around this incident and the speculation around what has happened. We can now confirm that the two people who lost their lives are an 11-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl.”

Officers said the family is being supported by specially trained officers.

“We don’t believe there to be any wider threat to the public at this time,” they added.
