She is someone.
Lena Dunham and the cast of Girls have released a video dedicated to the survivor of the Stanford sexual assault case.
Standing together, the four actresses make a powerful plea for victims of sexual assault to be listened to and supported.
The video comes in the wake of the sentencing of Brock Turner in the Stanford rape case.
Lena tweeted the video last night, saying: “I dedicate this to the brave survivor in the Stanford case who has given so much to change the conversation.”
You can read the 23-year-old’s powerful letter to her attacker here.
The Girls creator, alongside Allison Willams, Zosia Mamet and Jemima Kirke, urges people to ‘support, listen and take action’ to help survivors of sexual assault.
Quoting figures from the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, the video states that one in five women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime, with 80 per cent of those attacks perpetrated by someone they know.
The video comes to a close with a call for survivors of rape and sexual assault to be supported, not because “she is someone’s daughter, girlfriend or sister,” but because “she is someone.”
