A 12-year-old girl has died after a drowning incident in the UK.
The girl is believed to have been swimming in the River Orwell in Bury, Greater Manchester yesterday evening and was last seen at 7.55pm.
The alarm was raised when she got into difficulty and authorities rushed to the scene.
An underwater search team recovered her from the water but she was pronounced dead, reports Sky News.
Manchester police have said that they are not looking for anyone in connection with the death and treating it as a tragic incident.
They cautioned the public against swimming in unsafe waters during the heatwave.
“This is an incredibly tragic incident in which a young girl has lost her life, and my thoughts are with her family at this devastating time,” said Detective Inspector Andrew Naismith.
“With the warmer weather, it’s tempting to go into the water to cool off, but I’d like to remind everyone of the dangers of playing near or swimming in rivers, lakes and reservoirs and would strongly urge against this.”
