The recall is being issued in the interest of public health

Cereulide is a toxin which is produced by some strains of the bacterium Bacillus cereus, which can lead to food poisoning.

Therefore, this recall is a precautionary measure as there have not yet been any reported cases of illness to date.

The FSAI is urging parents, guardians, or caregivers not to feed the recalled product to their infant or young child.

The products and batches being recalled are listed in the food alert.

If you’re looking for the batch codes, you can find them on the bottom of the tin or box for powdered formulas, and on the bottom of the outer box as well as the side or top of the container for ready-to-feed formulas.

The FSAI warns that cereulide toxin may be pre-formed in a food and is also extremely heat-resistant.

The consumption of foods containing the toxin can lead to nausea and even severe vomiting. Symptoms often appear within five hours, and the duration of illness is usually 6 to 24 hours.

If your child shows no signs of symptoms after consumption, no further actions need to be taken, however, if you're concerned about the health of your infant or young child, it's advised to contact a healthcare professional.
