“It is with deep and utter shock that we, at Railway Athletic learned of the sudden passing of our club member Eoghan Halford yesterday [Thursday] evening.

We are numb, as are the whole area, at the loss of such a gentleman. RIP big man.”

The Waterford GAA Supporters Club Facebook page also remembered Eoghan in a heart felt statement.

“We would like to offer our sympathies to the family of Eoghan Halford, who tragically lost his life last evening in a road traffic accident.

His loss to the Dungarven Rugby Club, his own local sports clubs and team members, coaches and friends and the wider community, will be felt for some time to come.

At this time, our immediate thoughts are with his mother and his siblings and close family and friends”

According to Garda traffic statistics, more people have died on the road this year so far (119) compared to the same time last year (103).
