The mother of one of the Paris suicide bombers has spoken out about her son’s actions, claiming that he did not intend to kill anyone, but that he was “stressed”.
Ibrahim Abdeslam detonated his suicide belt near the Stade de France, injuring fifteen people on Friday evening.
Crowds swarmed the pitch at Stade de France on Friday night.
According to The Metro, his brother, Salah Abdeslam, is now at the centre of an international manhunt, having been questioned at the Belgian border before being allowed to go free.
Speaking to local news station Het Laatste Nieuws outside her home in Molenbeek, she revealed that she was “surprised” when she heard what had happened.
She explained that although her sons had spent time in Syria and become radicalised, they never thought he would commit such an atrocity.
Speaking through her nephew, she said: “This was not his plan, that’s for sure. The fact that his suicide belt exploded without killing anyone says a lot.
“We even saw him two days before the attacks. There were no signs that they had plans to do anything violent.”
Ibrahim has been identified as the man who rented a Seat car used to carry out attacks outside Casa Nostra restaurant and the La Belle Equipe cafe, killing dozens and injuring hundreds.
