Members of the Army’s Bomb Disposal Unit are engaged in an “ongoing incident” in South Dublin following the discovery of a “suspicious device”.

The area, near Grange Manor in Rathfarnham has been cordoned off and traffic is being re-directed from the area, after the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team were called to the area shortly before 10am this morning.

A spokesperson for the Irish Defence forces told the Irish Independent: “We’ve no further information to give at this time.”

Gardai confirmed that the unit had been dispatched to the area and that the incident is “ongoing”.

They said: “Diversion will remain in place until further notice.”

This is the second bomb scare in South Dublin in recent month, with roads in Ranelagh closed after a bomb scare in Cinnamon restaurant.
