After parts of Ireland experienced snow on Thursday, the wintry weather shows no sign of abating with Ireland set to experience bitterly cold weather over the weekend.

Met Éireann have forecast that temperatures will drop as low as -4 degrees on Saturday and Sunday night, with widespread severe frost expected nationwide as a result.

It won’t be much warmer during the daytime either, with maximum temperatures of eight degrees expected on Friday and between four and seven degrees at best on Saturday and Sunday.

While Friday is expected to be miserable as well as cold thanks to the presence of regular showers and blustery winds, drier conditions are expected on Saturday and Sunday with plenty of sunny spells and only light winds.

With cold weather comes more dangerous conditions on untreated roads across the country, so if you are going to be behind the wheel this weekend, stay safe.
