Add us as a preferred source on Google »This remarkable achievement is down to the innovative teledermatology services provided by AllView Healthcare, as confirmed by a report from Maynooth University School of Business.
The report highlights that AllView Healthcare’s use of advanced imaging technology to diagnose and treat skin conditions, such as cancer, without requiring patients to visit a consultant in person, has resulted in "a substantial saving on greenhouse gas emissions over the last two years".
By eliminating the need for physical appointments, AllView Healthcare has achieved several environmental benefits:
The report found that urban patients typically face a 24.4km round trip to their nearest hospital, while rural patients average a 65.5km round trip. The reduction in travel has been substantial, with the report noting: “We calculated the approximate kilometres saved to be 713,005, which equates to over 236 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions.”
AllView Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of teledermatology services, has seen over 25,000 patients in the past two years. Their collaboration with VHI has significantly shortened dermatology waiting lists, which stand at 48,000, by providing rapid access to treatment.
Maynooth University’s evaluation of AllView Healthcare’s practices confirmed the environmental benefits of teledermatology. Researchers concluded: “Telemedicine reduces carbon emissions by reducing the number of physical appointments in the health system.
These appointments now take place through a digital platform, resulting in significant savings for both patients and the environment.”
Eoin O’Reilly, CEO of AllView Healthcare, said: “AllView is thrilled to announce a significant milestone in our commitment to environmental sustainability.
“Through our innovative process, we have successfully reduced carbon emissions in Irish healthcare, underscoring our dedication to creating a greener future. We are equally proud to share that our groundbreaking work has garnered the support of Maynooth University.
“Their research highlights the importance and impact of our efforts in the fight against climate change. We believe that responsible innovation is key to a sustainable healthcare future."
Dr. Emmanuel Kypraios from Maynooth University School of Business praised the company’s commitment: “We were delighted to support AllView Healthcare in its sustainability journey and impressed by Eoin O’Reilly’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions in Irish healthcare.
“It is admirable to see companies like AllView Healthcare view sustainability not as a ‘nice to have’ but as a fundamental business imperative.”
AllView Healthcare’s teledermatology services not only provide faster and more effective management of skin conditions but also contribute significantly to environmental sustainability, setting a great example for the healthcare industry.
