Rose of Tralee’s most popular party piece has been banned

It was always the safe bet for the Roses.

It was always the safe bet for the Roses.

Going up on stage in front of a crowd of people with the whole of Ireland watching at home, is probably very nerve wracking.

Joking with Dáithí and chatting about their lives isn’t nearly as stressful as the talent part.

Most girls chose to do a jig or sing a song, but anyone who was choosing to recite a poem, will have to come up with another plan.

Over the years many girls took to the stage to read poems they wrote themselves about the contest, or read one written by a famous poet but poems of all kinds will now be banned from the show.

This is in an effort to modernise the pageant.

According to the Sun, a spokesman said of the decision:

“The real reason is because in the olden days, poems were seen as a form of entertainment before all the modern entertainment we now see. They had their place in time.

The spokesperson said that they want to make the show more relevant.

“The show will be a little more fast moving without the poems as well. It’s a decision we made and we might add something to it next year instead.”

Maybe this year we’ll see more hip hop and banana dances to mix things up a bit, and keep it modern.

The show will air on RTÉ on Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd of August.
