Gusts of up to 81 miles per hour are expected to rock the holiday hotspots.

A red alert has been issued for the Canary Islands as ‘hurricane-force’ winds are set to hit the holiday hotspot.

Tourists have been warned to avoid the red weather areas today, Thursday.

The waring was issued from midnight last night for 24 hours.

Additionally, the other islands are also expecting high levels of winds ranging from 43 to 62 miles per hour.

Agencia Estatal de Meteorolgia have urged people to take extreme caution due to the high level of danger posed by the weather.

Tourists have been told to keep doors and windows closed in order to avoid damage from the storm.
