Police in the UK have reportedly confirmed that the human remains found at a farm in Glasgow are those of missing Karen Buckley.
The Cork nurse was last seen in the early hours of Sunday morning, with a large scale search launched for the 24-year-old after she disappeared from a nightclub in the Scottish city.
CCTV footage showed Ms Buckley leaving the venue with a man later identified as 21-year-old Alexander Pacteau, who claimed that they had engaged in consensual sex at his flat before she left at 4am to return home.
A 21-year-man was arrested yesterday by police in connection with her disappearance and is expected to appear in court on Friday.
During a search of a High Craigton farm in the north of the city, human remains were found and several sources are now reporting that police have confirmed that they are those of Ms Buckley.
According to RTÉ News, Detective Superintendent Jim Kerr confirmed the news at a press conference this afternoon and read a statement by Ms Buckley’s father John.
“Marian and I together with our sons Brendan, Kieran and Damian are absolutely heartbroken. Karen was our only daughter, cherished by her family, and loved by her friends,” it read.
“She was an outgoing girl who had travelled the world, where she met lots of people and thoroughly enjoyed her life. We will miss her terribly. We would be very, very grateful if we could now be left alone to grieve with our family and friends.”
