“No Woman, No Drive” is a revamped version Bob Marley’s classic tune “No Woman, No Cry” but with lyrics that represent what’s going on in Saudi Arabia at the moment regarding their ban on women driving.
Written by social activist and comedian Hisham Fageeh the video takes a satirical look at the ban.
In Saudi Arabia, women risk arrest when sitting behind the wheel of a car. The ban itself is informal, rather than enshrined in Saudi law.
The protest song has been viewed over a million times and stays topical, even referencing one claim by a cleric that driving damages women’s ovaries.
Last Saturday, several women risked arrest for defying the ban and subsequently uploading videos online.
