NZ prime minister Jacinda Arden’s message for children worried about Easter Bunny’s visit during lockdown

New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Arden had the best message for children worried about the Easter Bunny's visit during lockdown.

The country is current under a nationwide lockdown, with people only allowed to leave the house for essential supplies or exercise. During a recent press conference, one of the journalists told Arden that a younger viewer had gotten in touch - and had a very particular question for the prime minister. "We've had some correspondence from some younger viewers who are quite concerned about the Easter Bunny," the journalist said. "Have you considered any exemption for the Easter Bunny? Because, of course, he would be breaking the bubble for many families."

“You’ll be pleased to know that we do consider both the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny to be essential workers,” Ardern said.“But as you can imagine at this time they’re going to be potentially quite busy at home with their family as well and their own bunnies. “So I say to the children of New Zealand if the Easter Bunny doesn’t make it to your household then we have to understand that it’s a bit difficult at the moment for the bunny to perhaps get everywhere.” And while it may be difficult for the Easter Bunny to hop to every home this year, Arden had a suggestion for how children could mark the occasion this year “I’ve a bit of an idea that maybe in lieu of the Easter Bunny being able to make it to your home you can create your own Easter hunt for all the children in your neighbourhood. So if you’re one of those homes who have had a teddy in your front window, maybe draw an Easter egg and pop it into your front window and help children in your neighbourhood with their own Easter egg hunt, because the Easter Bunny might not get everywhere this year," she added.
