A 47-year-old woman has tragically died after a horrific jet ski accident involving her twin daughters in Arcachon Bay in the south of France.
The mother of two was riding on a jet ski with her partner while her 16-year-old daughters were riding on another.
All four were being supervised by an instructor, however, an unfortunate collision occurred and the woman was left with severe head injuries.
The woman's partner and both twin daughters suffered minor injuries, and all four were taken to Bordeaux hospital by helicopter.
Despite receiving treatment in hospital, the 47-year-old mum from Angouleme in France sadly passed away a few hours later.
Whether or not the family were wearing helmets at the time of the crash remains unclear.
According to Sud Ouest, French law dictates that you must be at least 16 and have a boating licence or be supervised by a qualified instructor to operate a jet ski, which the girls were.
Jet ski rentals in the popular holiday destination of Arcachon are typically speed-limited, but the exact speed of the vehicles during the incident is also unknown.
Arcachon Bay is located on the southwestern edge of France on the Atlantic Ocean about 41 miles southwest of Bordeaux and about 116 miles southwest of Angoulême, where the family was reportedly from.
The publication also revealed that no charges have been brought in relation to the woman's death as no one was found criminally responsible.
Jet ski accidents are rare in France, but they're becoming more frequent.
Sud Ouest states that as many as 55 rescue operations were conducted in 2023 after jet ski accidents compared to just 34 in 2022.
Jet ski regulations have become more and more common in recent years, too, with the newspaper reporting that jet skis can't be launched from their slipways between June 15 and September 15 each year in Arcachan "to preserve the peace and public security within the port's perimeter."
