Monaghan woman dies in tragic incident in New Zealand

A woman from Ireland has died in New Zealand in what's been described as a 'horse-riding incident'.

The woman has been named as 54-year-old Ingrid Louise De Hoed, who was originally from Co Monaghan. She disappeared while out riding a horse in Waiuku Forest in Karaka, south of Auckland on New Year's Day. Ms De Hoed's family became concerned for her and reported her missing at 3.50pm. A search and rescue team was deployed and her body was recovered at around 8.10pm, reports The New Zealand Herald. Police have not released any further details about her death other than to say that they believe she died in a "horse-riding incident". A coroner will now take over the case. She is survived by her husband Ross and three children Tadhg, Ciannait and Fionn. A native of Tirkeenan in Monaghan, Ms De Hoed attended Trinity College in the 1980s before emigrating to New Zealand. A death notice in the The New Zealand Herald said that Ms De Hoed died "doing what she loved" and that she would be "sorely missed". Tributes have been paid to Ms De Hoed on social media, where she was described as "a larger-than-life character, a one-off." She will be laid to rest in New Zealand on Wednesday while a memorial service in Ireland is scheduled for April 2019.
