Independent TD Mick Wallace has sparked outrage on Twitter, after posting an “insensitive” tweet in the wake of the Paris Attacks.
Amid a sea of tweets sharing information and well wishes to those in Paris, Wallace tweeted:
“so terrible for the victims, but when is France going to stop it’s role in the militarisation of the planet?”

The tweet was soon retweeted by TD Clare Daly, who wrote that although the attacks were a “tragedy beyond belief”, “it’s always the right time to ask why or it will go on”.
Tragedy beyond belief…everyone’s thoughts with victims but it’s always the right time to ask why or it will go on. https://t.co/G4UGC2wZY5

The comments attracted anger across the social media platform, with many weighing in and expressing their distaste.
@wallacemick Seriously?!? You decided this was an appropriate tweet on hearing the news??

@wallacemick if you’ve nothing useful to say – say nothing

@wallacemick perhaps it would be better to hold off on talk of why this happened and hope that no more lives are lost

@wallacemick you should be ashamed.

@wallacemick most inhumane response to such a loss of life

@wallacemick ah Mick, very disappointing insensitive tweet. Tonight is about people who are dead and those held hostage. Please re consider
