Met Éireann predicts when Ireland will be hit with high temperatures

Aine Goulding

High temperatures with potential rainfall will return to Ireland during June

For the last week, we’ve seen some rain and cooler temperatures, Met Éireann predicts when Ireland will be hit with temperatures higher than average.

From June 16th to June 22nd, “higher than average temperatures are expected across the whole country with rainfall amounts indicated to be lower than average.”

This will continue until the end of June, coming into the first week of July.

From June to August, they predict that the mean temperature is going to be “very likely to be above average”:

“Temperatures are likely to trend between 0.5 and 1.0°C above average generally for the three-month period, with a signal for mean temperatures to trend between 1.0°C and 2.0°C above average for the south and east during June.”

Rainfall is more uncertain, with a potential for some wet and dry periods during the three months.

There are indications that June will have more chance of rain than average and August will be drier than usual. July remains uncertain.

As this approaches, it’s important to stay safe in the heat

Experts advise that those either going on holiday in hot countries or regions with high heat should:

  1. To drink water
  2. Avoid direct exposure to the sun
  3. Wear light clothing
  4. Apply sunscreen
  5. Avoid dehydrating drinks like coffee and alcohol.

To stay sun safe in this high temperature, we previously interviewed experts at Eucerin who advised:

“To prevent sunburn, reduce the risk of skin cancer, and decrease the likelihood of early skin aging, we recommend you wear sunscreen every day.”

The Irish Cancer Society recommends using a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects from both UVA and UVB. You should wear an SPF of at least 30 every single day.
