The sun may not be shining, but that doesn’t mean UV rays aren’t damaging your skin

The sun isn’t shining but wearing SPF every day is essential

We may think the dreary Irish weather protects our skin from getting damaged, but that’s not the case at all.

Protecting our skin is so important, but are we doing enough to care for it day to day?

Our skincare routines may have improved in recent years. Gone are the days when we took all our makeup off with a makeup wipe and called it a day. We now have extensive skincare routines for both morning and night, but are we doing ourselves a disservice if we’re not protecting our skin from the sun?

Skin experts have urged the public to use SPF every single day in a bid to protect their skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays.

According to experts at Eucerin, we should be wearing SPF every day, even when it’s not sunny outside. The sun may not be shining, but that doesn’t mean the UV rays aren’t damaging your skin.

Do I really need to wear sunscreen every day?

The Eucerin team said:

“A few minutes in the sun provides a healthy dose of vitamin D, but our skin is often exposed to several hours of UV rays. Sunscreen helps protect against photoageing, cellular DNA damage and hyperpigmentation, so you should wear sunscreen every day as part of your skincare routine.

“To prevent sunburn, reduce the risk of skin cancer, and decrease the likelihood of early skin aging we recommend you wear sunscreen every day,” they added.

Wearing SPF is one of the best things I’ve done when it comes to my skincare routine. What is the point in caring for your skin with such expensive products if you’re going to go outside and let UV rays undo all the work?

The Irish Cancer Society recommends using a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects from both UVA and UVB. You should wear an SPF minimum 30 every single day.
