A 45-year-old man lost his life at an American theme park on Thursday, after he was struck by a roller coaster.

James Young, from East Canton, was at Cedar Park with friends on Thursday evening when he opted for a turn on the “Raptor”.

The roller coaster is one of the Ohio theme park’s biggest attractions.

While he was on the ride, some of Mr. Young’s belongings fell from his person into a restricted area below. After disembarking, he entered the restricted area to retrieve his possessions.

Sandusky Assistant Police Chief Phil Frost told reporters that the man: “jumped over a fence into a restricted area under the Raptor and was looking for his personal belongings”, adding that Young “was struck by the Raptor train that was in operation.”

Cedar Point spokesman Bryan Edwards said that park safety officials responded immediately to the situation, but that Mr. Young’s life could not be saved.

Cedar Point is located on the shores of Ohio’s Lake Erie and is one of America’s oldest amusement parks. It first opened 146 years ago.
