Adrian Bayley is currently serving life in jail for the 2012 rape and murder of Irishwoman Jill Meagher in Melbourne.

It has emerged that he is beginning an appeal against two separate convictions for rape although his request for a tax-payer lawyer has been denied, ABC Australia reports.

Bayley had been found guilty of raping an 18-year-old in St Kilda in 2000, and both a Dutch tourist and a 25-year-old in 2012.

According to the report, he will be eligible for parole in 2058.

Bayley’s current lawyer has stated that the victim from 2000 identified Bayley 11 years after the crime and following his conviction of the murder of Meagher.

He also made the point that the car interior the 2000 assault allegedly took place in was described differently by the victim than the car that was owned by Bayley at the time.

The hearing continues.
