AA Roadwatch is advising alterior routes to motorists, with heavy traffic and back-ups causing chaos for rush hour commuters:
‘Traffic on the M50 southbound is being diverted off at J7 and onto the Lucan Rd. To access the M50 southbound motorists should take the Lucan Rd outbound to J2 Liffey Valley, exit onto the Fonthill Rd which is very busy and take the N7 Naas Rd inbound, then access the M50 at J9 Red Cow.
‘Traffic is heavy on the M50 southbound from J4 Ballymun to J7 Lucan. Northbound traffic is slow from J13 Sandyford to J7 Lucan and further along, exiting at J4 Ballymun.
As a result of the collision on the M50, traffic is extremely heavy in Newcastle village, Clondalkin village and Lucan village. It’s still very busy on the Outer Ring Rd from Grange Castle and on the Fonthill Rd from Ronanstown.’
Gardaí are advising that the road closures are likely to be in place until lunchtime, with commuters continuing to experience long delays.
