"Struvite crystals form during the production process of canned fish. As these salt crystals may cause injury, the product should not be consumed. Other Sol & Mar products are not affected by this recall. Our manufacturer Conservas Selectas de Galicia S.L. wishes to apologise for this incident."The Food Safety Authority has said the following about the recall:
"Lidl Ireland is recalling two varieties of Sol & Mar Squid in Sunflower Oil because they may contain naturally occurring salt crystals, known as struvite, which may be mistaken as glass fragments. Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in all Lidl stores that sold the implicated batch."
Customers who have purchased either of these products are told to return it to store for a full refund. Lidl has said:
"If you have bought the above product we advise you not to eat it. Instead, return it to a store for a full refund."
