Laura Brennan will never be forgotten

Tributes have been pouring in for the late activist Laura Brennan on what would’ve been her 32nd birthday.

The campaigner should have been celebrating her birthday with her loved ones today, but her life was tragically cut short by cancer in 2019.

Laura Brennan used her voice, her story, and her strength to make Ireland a better country for today’s women.

She ensured the island was a safer place when it came to women’s health before her untimely passing.

Laura has been remembered as an inspiration with the HSE leading the tributes to the late campaigner.

“Laura Brennan would have been 32 years old today. After her cancer diagnosis, and until her death in 2019, she campaigned to encourage parents to get the facts on the #HPVvaccine.

“The vaccine helps protect young people from the HPV virus which can cause cervical and other cancers in both men and women,” the HSE added.

Another said, “Laura’s legacy continues on in so many ways – especially the Laura Brennan HPV catchup programme. So many will be spared the devastation and cruelty of a HPV related cancer diagnosis and we owe it to her. She is, and always will be, amazing.”

Had the HPV Vaccine been available for the deeply missed Laura Brennan, she’d be 32 today. Thanks to her and the Brennans’ work, young people in Ireland can be protected against HPV cancers – even if they missed vaccine first time round.”

What Laura Brennan did for this country is something we’ll never forget.

As many have said, her legacy will live on in the groundbreaking changes she made happen.

Laura was diagnosed with terminal cancer in September 2017. She spent years raising awareness of cervical cancer and promoting the uptake of the HPV vaccine.

Laura is attributed to the major uptake in the vaccine after her powerful campaign. She is recognised for saving the lives of many women in Ireland.

At the time, she said she was “the reality of an unvaccinated girl.”

“What kills me though is that all this could have been prevented,” Laura added.
