Dundalk kite surfers ‘threaten to make complaints against emergency services’

Emergency services rescued the two men off the coast of Louth on Monday.

Two kite surfers were rescued by emergency services after they got into difficulty. The Rescue 116, Coast Guard and the RNLI were launched to help the pair in Dundalk Bay. However, there are now unconfirmed reports that the individuals are threatening to make complaints about the emergency services personnel for “stopping them” from kitesurfing in the middle of the storm.

Her is working to independently verify these reports. Earlier, a spokesperson for the RNLI told us:

"The lifeboat was launched to reports of windsurfers in difficulty North of Dundalk Bay. "Rescue 116 helicopter was also launched and local Coast Guard.  About a mile and a half offshore the lifeboat crew were told they had been recovered safely ashore and the lifeboat was stood down. "All safe."

The Irish Coast Guard is continuing to urge the public to stay well clear of coastal areas as Ophelia continues her path of destruction. These warnings are being echoed by local councils and the Gardaí.
