In 2015, Cathriona White died of an overdose on prescription medication.

In September of last year, the 30-year-old makeup artist chose to end her life at her Los Angeles home.

Before her death she was in a relationship with actor Jim Carrey who is now being accused of aiding Cathriona in her suicide.

According to The Huffington PostCathriona’s ex-husband Mark Burton has accused Jim of using his power as a Hollywood actor to get the drugs that she overdosed on.

At LA’s Superior Court, court documents say that the former The Truman Show actor bought the medication under the alias of “Arthur King” for his girlfriend and following her death, made sure his involvement would not visible to authorities.

Mr Burton said that the actor sent messages to Cathriona the day before her death to make it look like he was not complicit in her death.

In a statement, The Mask actor stressed his innocence and deemed the impending lawsuit as unnecessary and heartless.

“It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man’s lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honour  against the evil in this world.

“I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved.

“Cat’s troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone’s control.

“I really hope that some day soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace.”
