The explosion was consistent with that of a planted device

A jet in Mogadishu, Somalia was forced to make an emergency landing after an explosion blew a massive hole in the fuselage of the plane.

Sky News reports that an aviation expert has determined the explosion to be consistent with that of a planted bomb.

‘John Goglia, a former member of the US National Transportation Safety Board and an aviation security expert, said: “We don’t know a lot, but certainly it looks like a device.”‘

74 passengers and crew were safely evacuated but there have been unconfirmed reports that a male passenger fell from the plane following the explosion, as a body was found in the nearby town of Balad.

A passenger told the Associated Press:

“I don’t know if it was a bomb or an electric shock, but we heard a bang inside the plane,”
