His funeral is taking place on August 10
Jay Slater’s cause of death has been revealed after his body was returned to the UK.
Last week, the 19-year-old’s body was flown back to the UK after he died while on holiday in Tenerife.
Slater, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, had gone missing on the island June 17, when he disappeared after attending the NRG music festival at Playa da las Americas.
His disappearance sparked a huge month-long search effort, and last month his body was found in the area where he had gone missing.
A post-mortem examination found he died of traumatic head injuries, consistent with a fall from height. It concluded that his death would have been instantaneous, LBC reports.
His funeral will take place on August 10 at Accrington Cemetery Chapel. His family have said it will be a “celebration” of his life, and have encourage people wishing to attend to wear something blue in his memory.
In a statement, issued through overseas crisis support charity LBT Global, the family said “if anyone would like to bring a single rose to place with Jay, they are more than welcome.”
Relatives also encouraged well-wishers to donate to LBT Global, in memory of Slater.
Slater had attended the NRG music festival in Tenerife with two friends before his disappearance.
After a night out on then Spanish island, Slater had travelled 30km to the north of the island with two men he had befriended to their Airbnb in Masca.
His last known location was the Rural de Teno Park in the north of the island.
The men whose property he travelled to were later ruled “not relevant” to the case.
The Spanish Civil Guard said Jay could have fallen in the steep and inaccessible area where he was discovered.
